Nobby's beach and lighthouse would probably be Newcastle's most identifiable icon.  They shelter the Mouth of the Hunter river from the South and have guided thousands of coal ships in and out of Newcastle harbour.

Nobby's beach was also the site of the infamous Pasha Bulker beaching in the June storms of 2007.
